THE controversial redesign and resurfacing of Victoria Avenue which will force emergency services to mount the pavement is over budget and behind schedule, it has been revealed.
Transport and Technical Services sparked outrage last month when it admitted to re-working the road system at Bel Royal without consulting the emergency services.
And yesterday the department revealed that the entire project, which includes resurfacing as well as improving crossings, street lighting and drainage between Bel Royal and Rue de Galet, is more than £200,000 over budget and two-and-a-half weeks behind schedule.
The work, which is now scheduled to finish on Wednesday, will cost £1.2 million. Transport Minister Deputy Guy de Faye said that most of the delay and added cost was because the condition of the ground below the road was worse than expected.
