Jersey’s final flourish

00570460_cropped.jpgTEAM Jersey head into the last stretch of their 1,500 nautical mile attempt to race Round Britain today boosted by a spurt of good results over the weekend.

The team that comprises Roy Smith, Jean Rihou, Toby Clayson, Dave Myles and Neil Jackson suffered a small setback on Friday, en route from Inverness to Edinburgh, when their boat suffered an electric fault and had to be pulled into Stonehaven.

However Team Jersey still managed to make it to the finish line in good time, with a top speed of 75 mph, and in Saturday’s leg – from Edinburgh to Newcastle – drivers Smith and Rihou steered an excellent race, jostling for the winning position and clinching a superb second place in the Sports Boats and RIBs (27ft-33ft) class.

A ground crew member said: ‘We were waiting for the boys on the pontoon to congratulate them on their race, because the previous time Roy and Jean were in the boat, they had received injuries.
