Games cash boost

00300218_cropped.jpgCOMMONWEALTH Games hopefuls have been boosted by a £25,000 cash offer that will fund specialist coaching and Games preparation for promising athletes.

The money will enable the best of the Island’s sportsmen and women to benefit from expert tuition from professionals outside of the Island ahead of the 2010 Games in Delhi.

It will also provide a means for athletes to travel to a number of test events, which are often held by the host nation in the run up to a Commonwealth event, to allow them to check facilities and procedures and rectify any problems before the Games start.

Commonwealth Games Association of Jersey secretary Alan Cross said the money was part of a US$100,000 grant donated to each member nation by Delhi in order to help athletes with their preparation for the Games.
