From Michel Green.
AS we live in the neighbourhood of the Weighbridge, my wife and I take a keen interest in the development of the area taken up by the former bus station.
The very fact that the area was desecrated to the detriment of the former attractive Victoria Gardens at that time was in itself a gross error of judgment.
In more recent years we have been presented with a steam clock, purporting to be the good ship Ariadne for no apparent reason, an upturned boat reminiscent of a beached whale, and now we are presented with a slab of monolithic granite which reminds one of the communist-inspired Tienenman Square, with a minimal amount of granite seating each taking on the appearance of a miniature Stonehenge – totally unattractive and lacking in inspiration.
And this area is apparently to be known by the equally uninspiring name of Weighbridge Gardens.
Unless drastic measures are taken to improve its appearance with attractive flower beds and statuary – including the return of Queen Victoria from her exile behind the abandoned toilets at West Park – this area will always remain a bleak and unattractive windswept place as any inherited from the communist era, instead of an area dedicated to the celebration of one of the finest rulers that the United Kingdom has ever produced.
Or is that considered unimportant in this day and age? 13 Bas du Mont,

Weighbridge plan is totally uninspiring
