ISLANDERS who are away from Jersey in October should still be able to vote in the referendum on a move to Central European Time.
Postal and pre-election voting are both expected to be permitted to ensure as many people as possible have their say. The Chief Minister has lodged a proposition which outlines how the referendum will be run to ensure a fair and impartial vote.
The 20-page document also reveals that it is likely to cost around £10,000, with one person needing to be employed for two months. The cost, which has not been budgeted for, will be paid by the Chief Minister’s department.
States Members decided on 19 June to hold a referendum to ask Islanders the question: ‘Do you think that Jersey should adopt Central European Time?’ They will be able to answer yes or no. The vote is to be held on the same day as the Senatorial and Constables elections and ballot boxes will be at the same voting stations.

Why don’t we just avoid the cost as the proposal is plainly ludicrous, like it or not Jersey is tied to the UK and not continental Europe. A much better debate would be whether or not to end DST, which is likely in the UK.
