’Splash plans ‘could destroy local habitats’

00571122_cropped.jpgAN environmental group has expressed concerns about hotelier David Seymour’s proposal to develop the Watersplash.

Friends of Les Mielles – committed to protecting the area of special interest – have written to Mr Seymour expressing their fears about the project, which proposes to build a £10 million ‘world class’ family surfing centre.

Mr Seymour is receiving comments from the public before submitting an application for the scheme which could include a small skateboarding bowl, a climbing wall for younger children, a surfing shop, casual and fine dining restaurants, entertainment facilities and six surf lodges with a total of 24 beds for visitors.

Friends of Les Mielles, a group which was set up 40 years ago, say that the plan proposes to build a car park on an area of coastal strip which they say would have an impact on wildlife. ‘Primarily, the area of coastal strip to the north and south boundary would be built over/turned into a car park, which clearly demonstrates no concern for the local wildlife habitat or the natural rugged landscape that forms the character of Les Mielles,’ they say.

lets hope the old boy network( vic college) doesnt get its way, planning cannot allow seymour to desecrate this last remaining area in the name of profit, let the ‘j’ cats go elsewhere to eat overpriced rubbish dressed in their pseudo-surf gear, with their spoilt brats and 4×4’s

People love to say no, but Jersey needs something like this… If people keep listening to the nay sayers then Jersey will fade away!

It is high time that the Splash site was redeveloped. We,as islanders, are very fortunate to have someone with David Seymour’s calibre who is prepared to invest his own family’s hard earned money in a tourist industry which to most people is “Dead Ducks Ville”. We have a sad sort of pond life that exists in Jersey, they sit outside pubs every day drinking and smoking; complaining about the people that have worked hard and been successful who by paying their taxes provide the health care for these wasters.
I also think that it would be nice if Dandara could build a 12-storey apartment block on the Chateau site and then Harcourt could build a 15-storey hotel at Blanche Bancs (they serve little purpose and look so untidy), opposite Le Braye carpark.

Well St Ouens is the last place i want to see ruined, its unique, and US JERSEY people want it kept unique! Its a lovely place down at the five mile road and havin a modern building stuffed smack back in the middle of it all on the coast would look out of place! Its build build build over here, pitiful!!! Some buildings look so ugly and modern i really do think that this isnt the right place to have such a building, especially with the surroundings. We dont need this building to go ahead, rediculous, why not knock the place down and leave it.Sadly it will go ahead! Theres not many places in the island that we can enjoy now - this island needs a reality check! But because of sheer ignorance and greed that is taking over/ruining this beautiful island, we really do need to take a step back and look whats best for the environment most of all - dont you think so Mr Seymour?
