Aland prepared

00571397_cropped.jpgALAND is gearing up well for a bigger than expected second hosting of the NatWest Island Games next summer.

Hosts in 1991, Aland were originally expecting around 2,500 competitors, officials and media to travel to the Baltic archipelago next June but that figure has now extended to a staggering 3,700.

‘It’s a huge increase,’ said Jersey Island Games Association chairman Steve Jacobs, adding: ‘It’s going to be tough arranging all the accommodation but I’m confident it will be achieved.’

Jacobs and general team manager Jeff Reed were Jersey’s delegation at the International Island Games Association’s annual general meeting last weekend where it was confirmed that Bermuda will host the 2013 Games.
