ST HELIER residents could have their rubbish sent to France as part of a new parish-wide recycling scheme.
Parish officials have been looking into sending recyclables such as plastics and rubber to Brittany for recycling in order to reuse rubbish and become more environmentally friendly.
Didier Monier, who is the director of a family company in Dinan which has been in the recycling business since 1845, visited St Helier last week and said that there was a recycling market for many of the items thrown away by Islanders and burned in the incinerator.
The Constable of St Helier, Simon Crowcroft, said that he hoped to have the scheme up and running with the company, Romi Industries, within the next six months. It would initially involve collecting plastic bottles in sacks and transporting them to St Malo to be collected for recycling.
