New site in abuse inquiry

00572447_cropped.jpgPOLICE believe that a German bunker close to Haut de la Garenne was used by former care workers who sexually assaulted children.

Officers involved in the historical child abuse scandal are to focus their attention on the small concrete structure, which lies in the grounds of Victoria Tower in St Martin.

Police dogs are being sent in this afternoon to determine whether any human remains exist in the bunker, before specialist forensic officers from the UK, Gibraltar and Jersey move in to look for evidence.

Six witnesses have told police that they were taken to the site by staff at the former children’s home where they were abused throughout the 70s and 80s.

The move comes as officers are preparing to move out of Haut de la Garenne, which has been the focus of the inquiry over the last five months.
