U17s face ‘big boys’

00572624_cropped.jpgJERSEY’S under-17 cricketers will be rubbing shoulders with the ‘big boys’ in Belfast next week in the International Cricket Council’s European Division I tournament.

In an unprecedented move last October, the ICC European Cricket Committee increased their under-17 and under-15 tournaments to six teams – on a trial basis - for the first time since the championship began in 1999.

Previously only Denmark, Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands competed for the U17 and U15 Division I titles as they are European High Performance Program (HPP) countries.

Jersey and Guernsey’s inclusion came on the back of good performances in other European tournaments last summer when Jersey defeated Guernsey to win the U19 championship while Jersey were also successful in the U23 tournament played in Guernsey.
