00574032_cropped.jpgST HELIER RFC put one foot in Division I last night after winning the top-of-the-table NatWest Evening League Division II encounter against previously second-placed Rathbones OVs.

The Saints won by seven run at the FB Fields to increase their lead at the top of the table to 22 points from Walkovers, who overtook OVs following a 54-run win against bottom-placed JUBRFC at LQ2.

St Helier got off to a fine start with 16 runs in the first over with Richard Gomersall scoring 15 of them before going on to retire with 53 after hitting seven boundaries and one six.

Lee Kent gave good support in mid-innings with 27 runs despite Bradley Vowden conceding just 18 runs in his four overs while Andy Brown and young Bradley Wherry took three wickets apiece for 32 runs and 18 respectively.
