FIREFIGHTERS battled against a heavy swell to rescue three cold and frightened girls from rocks at a north coast beauty spot last night.
The girls, who were all local and aged 14, 15 and 16, had scrambled on to the rocks east of Grève de Lecq after being blown offshore by strong winds while boogie-boarding.
A member of the public raised the alarm at around 6.50 pm. The Fire and Rescue Service’s inshore rescue team launched from the slipway at 7.05 pm.
Crew manager Larry Vibert said: ‘Finding a suitable position to make the rescue safely in the heavy swell, which was trying to throw the boat and crew against the rocks, proved difficult. The three girls, although uninjured, were ill-prepared for this scenario in the very untypical July weather and were visibly shaken.’
