Havant pass good test

00574655_cropped.jpgLAST season’s FA Cup giant killers Havant and Waterlooville defeated Jersey 4-0 at Springfield last night in the first of two pre-season friendly matches between the clubs this week.

Conquerors of Swansea City in the third round of the FA Cup last season, the Conference South side showed their class at times with some excellent one and two-touch football.

Despite there being many divisions between the teams, Jersey gave a fine account of themselves too, especially in the opening 25 minutes when a bit of luck and they could well have scored a couple of goals.

But gradually the visitors got a foothold in the game and former Brighton and Hove Albion defender Gary Elphick put them ahead with a header after Jersey goalkeeper Craig Fletcher came off his line but was blocked getting to the ball as he ran into the back of a Jersey defender. Two further goals in the five minutes before half time put the game out of Jersey’s reach.
