Shooters take bronze

0550160_cropped.jpgJERSEY shooters continued their impressive start at the British Open Championships taking Bronze Medal in the Opening Shot.

This is the Open Championship long range curtain raiser in which shooters fire 15 shots to count at both 900 and 1,000 yards.

The Jersey Rifle Club team (Jersey Cream) of Bruce Horwood, Wally Langley, Colin Mallett and Daniel Richardson (pictured) fired a score of 577 with 53 V bulls to finish behind nine points behind Hertfordshire and just a single point behind Surrey. The Jersey Rifle Club second team (the Jersey Crapauds) also performed well placing tenth.

A delighted Jersey Rifle Club captain, Bruce Horwood, said: ‘Once again, the coaches performed well and we maintained our strategy of only firing on a given wind strength and angle. The mid-morning rain brought with it poor light conditions which made the target visibility a challenge but we top scored on our range. Unfortunately, Herts and Surrey had both recorded higher scores further down the firing line.’
