Zane close to British record

00575915_cropped.jpgZANE DUQUEMIN’S magnificent summer keeps on getting better and better, with a superb debut for English Schools U17s on Saturday earning him another gold – and an official Jersey record.

The 16-year-old Jersey discus star followed up his English Schools title-winning show in Gateshead earlier this month by destroying opposition from Ireland, Wales and Scotland at Bedford on Saturday.

The De La Salle student’s 53.67m throw earned yet another glittering gong in his super season – he also returned from Guadeloupe with a Jeux des Iles title in May as well as collecting a Hampshire championship.

Saturday’s win, achieved with a four-metre winning margin over second-placed Ireland, gives Duquemin the Jersey age-group record which previously stood at 50.71m – though should his superlative performance in the recent Colin Campbell Trophy match be ratified, he will stretch it further again, to 54.30m.
