Guernsey strike disrupts travel

0493002_cropped.jpgSOME inter-island flights and ferries were cancelled this morning as a result of an unofficial strike by Guernsey’s public sector manual workers.

St Peter Port harbour was shut as dockers and crane workers joined the strike and the airport was closed for just over half an hour as fire crews would not offer cover.

Flights to the UK and Jersey were delayed. Blue Islands cancelled some services to Jersey and rescheduled. More disruption at Guernsey Airport was expected later, with further staff walk-outs expected.

HD Ferries cancelled sea services to and from Guernsey for the day. The Condor Express from Weymouth was allowed to dock at 8.50 am, ending an anxious wait for about 40 Jersey bound day-trippers.
