Trust hatch a plan to boost coast campaign

00568873_cropped.jpgTHE National Trust is urging Islanders to log on to the internet and keep an eye on a baby fulmar that hatched on the north coast 11 days ago.

The fulmar live webcam was launched last month by National Trust for Jersey president Mike Stentiford at Bel Royal School.

Trust rangers scaled the cliffs to put the camera in a well-camouflaged spot to tape the fulmars, which look like seagulls but are smaller versions of an albatross. ‘It’s all part of the National Trust Coastline Campaign, which was launched in 2006,’ said Mr Stentiford. ‘We are pushing it forward and doing different types of things to arouse people’s interest in the coast.

‘The coastal areas support a tremendous amount of wildlife and a lot of it we don’t really come into contact with. A lot of people will not know what a fulmar is.
