THE letter published recently from ex-Senator Pierre Horsfall completely misses the point.
The reason why politics is not represented by men or women of calibre is because the latter know only too well that politics is a minefield of bargaining that has nothing to do with vision or good policies or ideas. Not very inviting.
As for public apathy, the public has a correct notion about politics, which is that, currently, it does not matter whom you elect.
Nothing changes. A general election would make some difference, but, as we can observe in many other countries, very little difference. What is required is a huge dose of transparency, not scrutiny. Scrutiny can be manipulated, but transparency is for all to see.
There simply is no other way to engage the public and allow people with real talent to step forward, allowing us a government that for once would be truly representative of the Island. 34 Queen Street,
