Jeffery lifts men’s title

00574993_cropped.jpgSCHOOLBOY Daniel Jeffery won the JP Morgan Grainville Tennis Club Closed singles men’s title at the Grainville courts on St Saviour’s Hill on Saturday.

The 14-year-old Victoria College pupil came from a set down to defeat Andrew Le Moine 10-5 on a championship match tiebreaker after they had each won a set 7-6.

Grainville head coach Joe Keany said: ‘It was a gripping final; it was very close throughout and Daniel did really well to win in the end.

‘There was a large crowd watching, it was evenly balanced through and it was intriguing as Andrew has a huge forehand and Daniel kept his game together to return some great shots.
