One for the road?

00576175_cropped.jpgA ST HELIER bar is hoping to be able to serve up Sex on the Beach, Singapore slings and the odd White Russian – from the back of an old burger van in Broad Street.

Rojo’s owners want to inject a bit of funk into Friday nights in the town centre with its mobile cocktail bar. The St Helier Roads Committee meeting is today due to consider whether the Bond Street bar can use its 16-foot mobile bar close to the fountain.

The issue is likely to cause a bit of a stir, but members of the committee refused to comment on it before today’s decision.

The mobile bar started its life as a burger van before it was transformed into a mosaic tiled drinks unit, complete with retro wallpaper, circular chandeliers, back-lit opaque bottle stack and a DJ booth.

A mobile bar in town, won’t this just induce more young people into binge drinking? I personally think it’s not a good idea and hope the authorities see it in the same way.

“a bit of funk into Friday nights in the town centre” I bet!

How kind of them to suggest this “service” Who do you think the customer base will be?

At private events and shows but not on our streets! we have plenty of bars and clubs and enough hassle with the drunks. Who are their cistomers going to be… Already drunk people who can not get served else where!
Town is alsready a no go for the elderly at night and this will just add to it.

Stay in you own premises and think of another idea to sell your booze.

All of the above comments show no consideration towards the innovation shown by these chaps. Do you honestly believe that it will be easy for teenagers to rock up to the bar and get served? If you think hard about this, you are insulting the authorities by suggesting that they will not ensure that the project was managed properly. Jersey needs to continually diversify its offerings to both locals and those that pay good money to visit the Island.
