Paycard blunder

ew__00534349_cropped.jpgTHOUSANDS of motorists have been overcharged for parking in Jersey since GST was introduced, the States have admitted.

Transport and Technical Services have revealed that drivers have overpaid by about £2,000 because double-unit paycards, season tickets and half-season permits have been wrongly priced since the tax was introduced on 6 May. Single-unit paycards have been priced correctly.

It is yet another blunder by the department which earlier this year made major changes to the road system at Bel Royal without consulting the emergency services.

John Richardson, the chief officer of Transport and Technical Services (pictured), said: ‘The department very much regrets this error and has taken steps to correct it as soon as possible.
