JERSEY’S Becky Slater started all four of Wales U21’s matches in the international tournament in the Czech Republic and has settled down well at that standard.
And only a knee injury, sustained the final group match, prevents her from gaining yet more international experience in the U18 Home Countries Tournament that is being held this week.
The U21 tournament was held in Prague with the Wales side having a baptism of fire with a 3-0 defeat to eventual winners France, followed by a 8-4 hammering by Poland. But Wales recovered their composure well to finish with two excellent draws, 1-1 with Russia and 2-2 with the hosts.
Wales finished sixth of the seven teams, but will be happy with the way they improved as the tournament progressed.
Quackers HC player Slater, who is also a national standard javelin thrower, said: ‘It took a while for us to settle down, but we improved at lot by the end.
