McArthur earns two final chances

0455196_cropped.jpgISLAND tennis players have reached five of the 12 remaining singles finals in the BNP Paribas Jersey Junior Open.

Starting from tomorrow at the Caesarean club, Grands Vaux, Charlie Cohen takes on No 1 seed Lewis Whiteley from Kent in the 16 years boys final; top seed Scott Clayton faces Martin Blaho, also of Kent, in the 14 years finale; and Jersey’s Stuart Parker, seeded two, faces favourite Correy Niccolls of Somerset in the U11 showdown.

Jersey’s Kirsten McArthur, the No 3 seed (pictured), has Guernsey’s Jo Dyer in the 18 years final and then, in the 16 years event, faces No 1 seed Charlotte Griffin of Leicestershire.

In the 8 and under section Brent Oldfield of Guernsey beat Jersey’s Pieter Stein 15-13 10-6 (championship points), while Eleanor Johnson beat Alexandra Perry 10-5, 8-10, 10-5 in an all-Jersey girls final. The doubles finals and consolation competitions are being played today.
