Criterion double for Wojtkiewicz

00577270_cropped.jpgPOLISH rider Adam Wojtkiewicz retained the Jersey Cycling Association’s criterion championship in St Brelade last Sunday.

At the Frank Machon cycling circuit at Les Quennevais, the Caesarean Cycling Club member crossed the finishing line a minute and 40 seconds ahead of his nearest rival after lapping all the field bar the second and third-placed riders.

Wojtkiewicz won the championship and the Coppi Memorial Trophy, the latter which is awarded to the first CCC rider. Vélo Sport Jersey race organiser Toby Aubert said: ‘It was a strong performance from Adam, he rode away to open a gap of around 100 metres after 15 minutes and he increased it a little further almost every lap.

‘The race is 60 minutes plus two laps and at the three-quarter distance Adam was 30 seconds behind lapping Ali Cann and James Amy before they increased their pace. Adam finished a comfortable winner with Ali taking second place by about two bikes lengths from James who rode very well.’
