JERSEY College for Girls pupil Lucy Le Lièvre made an impressive debut for Hampshire under-13s last weekend by taking three wickets against Oxfordshire.
A product of Jersey’s Development of Excellence Scheme, supported by Blackrock, she became the first Jersey girl to play county cricket at any level and she excelled with three wickets for six runs in six overs and conceding just one wide while delivering three maidens.
Playing near Eastleigh Airport, Hampshire won the match by five wickets after restricting Oxfordshire to 67 for nine in their 30 overs.
Lucy opened the bowling and she bowled accurately and controlled with the opposition finding her pace difficult to play. Hampshire recovered from the loss of four wickets for just six runs in four overs to reach their target in 20 overs with the Jersey girl not getting the opportunity to bat.
Jersey Cricket Board director Chris Minty said: ‘Lucy has been involved in junior cricket for three years and as well as improving all the time she really enjoys her game. ‘Lucy works hard at it too; she is a good bowler and recently she caught the eye on an under-13 trip to Sussex playing in the boys’ team.’
