Beeches secure crown as Saints join top flight

A 33-run victory over St Ouen secured Beeches their first NatWest Evening League Division I title since 2001 last night.

And in Division II St Helier won promotion to Division I after finishing top of the league after a 44-run victory over G4 Securicor.

Openers Hanley and Dave Buxton gave Beeches a solid start, with Hanely forced to retire after reaching 51. Buxton was run out for 28 and the same fate befell Peter German, who made 26. Dave Gorman added another 20, setting St Ouen a target of 131.

They fell well short with Beeches’ attack being rewarded with three wickets each for M Kemp, A Morgan and J Perchard in Saints’ reply of 98.
