Centurions prove big hit in Summer Sixes

00580373_cropped.jpgCENTURIONS Cricket Club won the second annual Summer Sixes knock-out cricket competition at FB Fields on Saturday, on a day that featured 11 teams notching up 2,187 runs between them.

The games were hard fought but the competition was friendly. A wide range of the cricketing community was represented, with several NatWest Evening and Weekend League teams, plus a women’s outfit.

Two teams of youngsters from Aztec Springfield and St Ouen’s also took part and were captained by Peter Osmont and Scott Simpson.

After the initial league stages the semi-finals were fought out between the favourites on the day, Walkovers A and Centurions on FB2 and Aztec Springfield and Rowlands Wanderers on FB1. Centurions won a close game in which they needed 11 from the final over chasing 57 runs, and Aztec Springfield beat Rowlands Wanderers thanks to James Cartmell’s four consecutive sixes off Hillius Pretorius and some excellent bowling from Ryan Evans and Matty Collin, both 14 years of age.
