TWO more parishes have joined the kerbside recycling scheme.
Residents in Trinity and St Mary will be given boxes and bags and encouraged to recycle paper, plastic bottles and metal packaging. Cardboard will be introduced at a later date.
The scheme, which will be introduced later in the year, will bring the total number of parishes operating kerbside recycling to four. The others are St John and St Lawrence.
The scheme’s set-up costs have been funded by RBS International and the idea is supported by Transport and Technical Services. The Constable of St Mary, Ken Le Brun, said: ‘RBS International’s kerbside recycling scheme is extremely important for the Island. ‘I hope that St Mary will be an example to the other parishes and they will also think about adopting the scheme.
The Constable of Trinity, John Gallichan, added: ‘All children in education are being taught from an early age about environmental concerns, and it is now time for the householders in the parish to take the lead.’
