Deputy’s husband to fight campaign ban

00263139_cropped.jpg00263139_cropped.jpgA STATES employee who intends to stand for election this year is to mount a legal challenge to fight a decision to stop him using paid holiday time to campaign for office.

Senior youth worker Trevor Pitman, the husband of St Helier Deputy Shona Pitman, is angry that he has been told he has to take unpaid leave to run his campaign.

And he fears he will not be able to afford to stand if he does not receive wages for the time he would be off work.

He said that he faced taking out a bank loan to pay the mortgage and meet his living expenses if he does decide to be a candidate. As a result, the Jersey Democratic Alliance member has consulted a lawyer as he believes that the decision by States human resources is unfair.
