Six-figure backing for Jersey RFC

cenkos-jersey-rugby_cropped.jpgJERSEY Rugby Club first XV’s new venture into London I next month has had a tremendous boost from a Channel Islands company.

The club, who won promotion to the highest level of rugby ever attained in the Channel Islands – just one promotion off the National Leagues – has agreed a three-year sponsorship deal with Stockbrokers Cenkos Channel Islands.

The cost of the sponsorship, which is worth £45,000 a year, will be shared with Comprop, who will be investing in the club’s 2nd XV.

Bill Dempsey, the new chairman of the club, believes that the deal has come at an ideal time for the club: ‘It is a new beginning for us, as we have never competed at such a high level before, and now we have a new coach and new sponsors,’ he said. ‘The commitment that Cenkos have made to our 1st XV will be invaluable if we want to be in contention this year – and still in London One next year and the year after that.

‘It is a very exciting time for Jersey Rugby Club and all the members of the club’s executive committee are thrilled that Cenkos will be playing such an important part in our future. We are very grateful for the support from both Cenkos and Comprop.’

London I is a direct feeder into National League III, which is a great indicator of how far the club have advanced in recent years.

Rugby fan Tom Scott, the chairman of Cenkos and Comprop, said he was delighted to be involved at such an important time.

‘Promotion to London I is a remarkable achievement for Jersey and I am sure the Island is extremely proud of this,’ said Mr Scott. ‘We are fully behind new head coach Ben Harvey and hope that the financial support we can give will help facilitate even greater success for the club. I can’t wait for the first home game of the season.’
