Island rugby enjoys night with the stars

00583484_cropped.jpgFORMER England captain Martin Corry’s testimonial rugby legends charity dinner at the Hotel de France last night undoubtedly lived up to its billing.

The 450 dinners, treated to the company of the Leicester stalwart’s stupendous guest line-up, which included current England boss and World Cup winning captain Martin Johnson, helped to raise well over £122,000 – and that’s not including the money to come from a silent auction – from which four charities will benefit.

The Ashburton-backed event had star turns from Corry’s Leicester team-mates Geordan Murphy of Ireland and England World Cup-winning flanker Lewis Moody – the latter taking more stick from Corry and Johnson than in most Guinness Premiership encounters.

The evening was started off by Peter Wheeler, the chief executive of Leicester Tigers, and there were also contributions from Wales’s Rob Jones, Scotland’s Gregor Townsend – all Lions together.
