Islanders’ data on computer sold in UK?

0542841_3_cropped.jpgTHERE are fears that some Jersey residents could be on the list of bank customers’ details that were found on a computer sold on eBay.

Personal details of more than a million NatWest and Royal Bank of Scotland customers turned up on a second- hand computer in the UK that was sold by a former employee for £35.88 on the internet site earlier this month.

The information, which also included details of American Express customers, is reported to have included names, addresses, mobile phone numbers, bank account numbers, sort codes, credit card numbers, mother’s maiden names and even signatures.

Emma Martins, pictured, the Island’s data protection commissioner, is going to investigate to see if any customers have been affected locally. ‘Clearly this is a large bank with strong links to the Island. It is therefore unsurprising that local residents are concerned,’ she said.

‘We have not been able to confirm at this stage whether any data relating to local residents is involved.’
