New £6 check-in charge surprises passengers

00372134_cropped.jpgPASSENGERS arriving at the Airport for bmibaby flights from Jersey got a shock this week when they were charged £6 to check in.

The airline introduced the charge from Tuesday but no announcement was made publicly of the extra cost to travellers.

At the same time the airline introduced online check-in, which is free of charge.

And the politician with responsibility for aviation said the extra cost for passengers was ‘not welcome’.

A bmibaby spokesman confirmed the £6 charge for checking in at the Airport and the introduction of the new online check-in facility when contacted by the JEP.

But many categories of travellers are not allowed to check in online and face the prospect of paying the charge whether they like it or not.

They are seriously considering charging for the use of the toilet on the plane! Flying cheap is a thing of the past and i for one will be supporting the one airline thats stayed with Jersey though thick and thin and although i dont like or rate their International Flights British Airways have always come good on the Jersey route.
Those passengers with Luggage will have to pay twice now as they get charged for checkin luggage and now this £6 for checkin at the airport. Shop around and you will see that BA are not that more expensive now, and you get a FREE cup of tea!!

This is just another move in the battle for airlines to claim that they are cheaper than the rest, without amending their prices.
It started with flybe, who introduced baggage charges, claiming that if you didn’t have bags, the price of your seat would be cheaper - it remained the same but those with bags paid extra.
It’s already bad enough that all airlines charge for use of a credit/debit card as payment, despite it being the only option!
Now bmibaby are charging to check in, the rest will soon follow; but what will we be charged for next? Where does it stop?
