Records at risk in Sark to Jersey row

00489514_cropped.jpgRECORDS in various classes will be under threat tomorrow as a result of good conditions forecast for the 42nd running of the Sark to Jersey rowing race.

Around 170 competitors are taking part in 53 boats which set off from Sark’s Dixcart bay at 2 pm.

Race organiser Ian Blandin said: ‘Everyone is looking forward to the race, entries are up again but unfortunately we’ve had to turn a few crews away because they were late with their entries.

‘The weather forecast is fantastic and it is likely that various class records will be broken.

‘We’ve had a bit of a slide in the number of entries in recent years but we are on the up again. Back in the 1980s we had around 70 boats competing and it would be great to reach that number again in the coming years.’

Blandin says that Guernsey rowing is stronger than Jersey’s at the moment and they are strongly fancied to win the inter-insular honours.
