Clayton courts more success

00585333_cropped.jpgTHE unstoppable Scott Clayton has picked up yet another trophy – this time in the Channel Islands Junior Championships at Les Ormes.

On the back of a magnificent win last month at the nationwide Road to Wimbledon and a three-title haul at the weekend’s Volaw Closed Jersey Junior Tennis Tournment, Clayton clinched the boys’ 14 and under singles prize in another straight-sets win over Daniel Harrison.

The round-robin tournament traditionally pitches Jersey’s and Guernsey’s top two players in each age-group, although this year Jersey provided a third entry in two categories where Guernsey could not field a second player. And for the second year in succession, Jersey’s talent came out on top.

Coach Andrew Evans said: ‘The tournament was played in a great spirit and there was some excellent tennis from all the players who took part. The games mainly went to plan, which managed to set up the last round of matches as the deciders.’
