Island bowler Lindsey Greechan hit top form in the World Champion of Chamions event in Aberdeen yesterday, beating two top players in straight sets.
Building on her great win in the British championships, and her excellent form at home that has seen her lift a series of Island titles, she is sitting at the top of her group table, winning yesterday against Australian Katrina Wright 7-5, 13-3, and Swaziland’s Dawn Squires, 7-5, 10-4.
With three group games to play, she still has some work to make sure of a place in the knockout quarter finals stage - because there are five competitors crowded within two points of each other at the top of the table.
‘I was slow to start in this event on Saturday, but today I really felt as if it was all coming together,’ she said last night.
She has had more success at the event at Westburn Park than husband Thomas, Island men’s champion, who beat Guernsey’s Don Batiste and Fijian Ratish Lal, but lost five other matches. ‘It’s too late to think of qualifying now,’ he said. ‘All I’m playing for now is pride, but I hope I can win one or two of my last three matches.’
