LOW-cost airline bmibaby has cancelled all flights to Birmingham from October until the spring.
Islanders were sent e-mails yesterday to say that their flights had been cancelled, while others had checked their bookings to find that their flights were no longer listed. Those who received e-mails have been swapped onto a flight to the East Midlands but others are left in the dark because they have not been contacted.
A bmibaby spokesman said that the reason for the suspension of the service was because of expected weaker demand and high fuel prices and added that the airline would still operate its services to East Midlands, Cardiff and Manchester. Kathy Blampied (pictured), of St Saviour, said that it was by pure coincidence that she found out her daughter’s flight from Birmingham for Christmas was cancelled.
‘My colleague was checking his flight on the website and it said it was no longer listed but he hadn’t had an e-mail from them to say it had been cancelled,’ she said. ‘My daughter is flying from Birmingham on Christmas Eve with them so I looked and sure enough that flight is showing as no longer listed. I have not had an e-mail either.
