Jersey swimmers face Australian test

0300503_cropped.jpgJERSEY swimmers Ian Black and Simon Le Couilliard are competing in Australian national short-course swimming championships in Melbourne next week.

The AIB Tigers duo are sure to be tested by a handful of hot emerging Aussie talent and with many seasoned professionals taking breaks after the Olympics the Championships will prove to be a showcase event for Australia’s up-and-coming young talent.

Le Couilliard (pictured), who has been in Australia since January, has been joined by fellow Island Games swimmer Black and the pair have been putting in a lot of hard work ahead of the Championships. ‘It’s been all go since I got here,’ said Black who says competing against house mate and Australian team member Craig Tucker is what he is looking forward to the most in Melbourne.

Black competes in the breast-stroke and medley events while Commonwealth Games swimmer Le Couilliard features in the butterfly and freestyle events together with leading out his club in the 4 x 100m medley relay. Le Couilliard said: ‘I’m looking forward to Melbourne and to see where I’m at right now. It’s been a long tough winter and I’m looking forward to a bit of rest before we fly out next week.’
