FOUR teenage Jersey hockey players are making strides towards gaining places in National squads this winter.
The quartet have already made it through to 16-player regional squads at two of the 12 performance centres nationwide, which have been running since April, and they will be keen to impress further tomorrow and next Sunday when they play trial matches against other performance centre squads.
The triallists from Jersey are Peter Millar, Finlay Hare, Tom Le Lièvre and Oliver Schofield. In an effort to improve development and nurture talent within the sport, England hockey established the centres and encouraged promising youngsters to attend the venues on numerous weekends for coaching and assessment from top level centrally contracted hockey coaches.

From the dozens of youngsters who have been on the England Hockey Single System Pathway, which is intended to lead players ultimately to National squad selection, each centre has made selections of 16 players for games against other nearby centres.
