Complaint against Harper revived

00331570_cropped.jpgAN investigation into a complaint made by a Jersey businessman against Jersey’s former deputy police chief, Lenny Harper, has reopened.

Businessman and former Centenier Roy Boschat (pictured) claims that Mr Harper ‘made his life hell’ and wants him brought back to the Island and questioned. He made a complaint against Mr Harper several months ago, but investigations by Devon and Cornwall police officers had to be suspended because of an inquiry into criminal allegations against Mr Boschat.

Mr Boschat, the owner of a vehicle recovery firm, was charged with inciting a police officer to carry out illegal checks on police computer systems. However, the charge was dropped because police evidence was deemed to be inadmissible, meaning that the inquiries into his complaints against the former deputy police chief can now begin again.

Having worked with police officers for 20 years, Mr Boschat said that he found himself being investigated for bribery, corruption and fraud. He said that after three years he had been cleared of any wrongdoing and had been charged with only one minor offence which had been thrown out of court. ‘I want to see Lenny Harper brought back to Jersey,’ he said. ‘Not just for my case. I want all the complaints against him to be investigated by an independent body.’ Devon and Cornwall police will be coming to the Island to investigate the matter.

Investigate what exactly? The article doesn’t make it clear. If it is for offences against the police discipline code then nothing can come of it because he has retired.

If it is a criminal investigation, then for what?

‘Bean around’ has hit the nail on the head; for better or worse, Lenny Harper has gone. What does Roy Boschat hope to achieve?

    Lenny Harper = Honest copper.

Honesty is not something our establishment seem to like.

I hopes Lenny DOES write a book and that it details the behaviour of our politicians, crown officers and media.

Like many things which are reported, there is clearly more to this than meets the eye. Mr Harper, with his robust agenda regarding anti-corruption and lack of bias, will no doubt welcome an investigation into his own activities.

What does Mr Boschat hope to achieve? One would imagine that he wishes to see his complaint investigated properly and impartially. Whether that complaint has merit remains to be seen. Either way, Mr Harper will doubtless be prepared to observe his own expressed values. Anything short of a proper adjudication of this complaint will surely leave a most unsavoury smell.
