Island records fall in Oz

0486282_cropped.jpgJERSEY swimmers Ian Black and Simon Le Couilliard have been in sparkling form at the Australian national short-course swimming championships by achieving three Island records in the Melbourne-based event.

Black swam to new times in the 100m breast-stroke and 200m individual medley together with gaining a superb nine-second personal best in the 400 IM where he placed 13th overall.

Le Couilliard took .02 of a second off the previous best 50m butterfly mark of 25.49, which was his own, achieved at the NatWest Island Games in Shetland in 2002.

Le Couilliard’s 50m time placed him 33rd at the championship while in the 100m fly, where he placed 20th, he touched home in 55.03 which is just .10 outside his Island record time of 54.93 again recorded in Shetland.
Black lowered the 100-metre breast-stroke to 1.04.70 to finish 23rd overall, the previous best of 1.04.77 was also his own achieved at the Rhodes Island Games last summer.
