Business from the Jersey Evening Post

Historical motor sport deal

The AIM-listed company also announced yesterday that it had taken over the management contracts of 40 South African rugby players, for a total consideration of four million South African Rand.

The latest motor racing deal means that Jersey-based Essentially will be responsible for Masters’ commercial strategy and sponsorship. Masters manages festivals and events in the UK and Europe at Grand Prix race tracks. The top attraction is the Grand Prix Masters grid, featuring historic Formula 1 cars from 1966 to 1978. Roy Maydon, founder and president of Masters, said: ‘Over the past five race seasons we have changed the face of historic racing. We now need to grow commercially, to develop the options open to us.’

Essentially’s chairman, Jersey resident John Byfield, said: ‘I am delighted to have concluded this deal. Ron Maydon and his team have created a strong platform in this important sector of motor sport and I look forward to taking it to the next level.’

• The contract is with Masters Historic Racing, who manage motor racing events with cars from the 60s and 70s
