Sport from the Jersey Evening Post

Jersey half-marathon

0601295_cropped.jpgHAVING won the Modern Hotels Jersey Half Marathon last year, Harrow runner Peter Norris (25) came back to the Island to win it again yesterday morning.

‘Although 1hr 13.44 was a PB, I wanted to run it faster,’ he said. ‘I was aiming for the 70 minute mark, hoping to begin the race in the company of other runners, but when I turned around after seven or eight miles from the start I discovered I was on my own.

The first woman home was ersey’s Sarah Davis, who was glad that there had not been a gale force wind – like last year – and that the Island’s top distance runner Jo Gorrod had not entered.

‘’If she had been in the race I would have come nowhere,’ she said. ‘I don’t do that many races, although I enjoyed running along the coast. It’s a very pretty route to run. But in this race, as in others, I just run for myself. I was surprised to come first but I didn’t run to win the race. Me? I’m just a runner, someone who likes to run.’
