AN investigation is being carried out into water pollution at the new incinerator construction site.

It is understood that photographs of ‘dirty’ water flowing into the sea from the site that were handed to the Environment Department sparked the inquiry.

Last month, Save our Shoreline campaigners alleged that the pollution was at its worst on spring tides when the site was being flooded.

They claimed that toxic material buried on the reclaimed land was washing into the sea as a result of the excavations. The claims were rejected by officers from the Environment Department.

Environment Minister Freddie Cohen has now written to all States Members, telling them about the investigation and saying that the incident ‘may be minor’.

Shouldnt he be stating that the incident may be MAJOR rather than trying to sweep aside as probably nothing much to worry about. Amazingly brazen.

On the beach around St. Aubin’s Fort there are hundreds of dead sea slugs. This is the first time i’ve seen them there. I hope someone could explain where they have come from and why they are all dead.

Sorry Freddie, between you and Guy you have managed to implement the eventual pollution of the WHOLE eastern shoreline, by your arrogance to conservation issues, by no stretch of the imagination should you be referred to as the Environment Minister !!!

People really shouldn’t worry about this because by the time the inquiry reaches any findings it will have all been sorted. I understand currently that the water in the site is being pumped over the perimeter sheeting back into the ground there ,which must be safe because it’s only really putting it back where it came from., and some will be tankered to Bellozanne for treatment.
The fact that either of these routes will be putting mobile heavy metals into St.Aubins bay and beyond will only be recognised after the event. Allowing the standard ‘oh no! but we will do better next time!’
