Express bus from the west for commuters

The Connex summer timetable schedule begins tomorrow

The Connex summer timetable schedule begins tomorrow

BUS users have had their voices heard – the new summer service will include late buses from St Aubin, better luggage storage for Airport-bound travellers and an ‘express’ commuter service.

The summer timetable begins tomorrow and Connex have made three main changes to the service, based on feedback from their customers.

Town workers travelling from Lakeside, Les Quennevais, will be able to use the new 8.10 am ‘express’ commuter service which will not stop along St Aubin’s Road.

Based on a demand for better links between St Aubin and St Helier, two new late-night buses will be introduced, leaving the Harbour at 9.45 and 10.50 pm on Friday and Saturday.

    This article could read:

Bus users have not had their voices heard as there are no evening or Sunday buses to the majority of country parishes for most of the year.

must be a special type of express bus that will hover over the bumper to bumper trafic in the mornings.

I say bring back the JTM. They were much cheaper from what I remember. The Connex service is poor as far as I am concerned.

I see it as basically a 6 month summer service which still isn’t as good as it should be, followed by 6 months of almost non existant service for anyone outside of the main bus routes and after 6pm at night. What use is this? People need a year round constant level service agreement not one varying on the month of the year.

If this is the best Connex can do I strongly might be an idea to get in a different bus operator to see if they can do better and save the tax payer some money. Or maybe give them some competition on their routes?

Maybe the JCRA should look into this monopoly and see how it can be resolved? This is after all its remit to improve the lot of consumers isn’t it? As far as I am concerned service levels need to go up and the the cost of using the service needs to fall to entice commuters onto the buses.

If the States are genuinely interested in solving traffic congestion this is one area that needs a big overhaul. Maybe they could employ some more expensive consultants to tinker around the edges?

There are ways around this issue and I would be quite happy to offer solutions for the odd £100,000 or so, as a consultant to the States.

We did have 2 different bus companies in the past JMT and Joes buses for many years before cars took over and they slashed services.seems to me every form of transport and services are much worse than in the past.we are going backwards instead of forwards

Typical of a TTS managed service. No enlightened thinking and then a string of bright ideas all at once. It must be an old style bus service.

Yes Adrian (4) but the JCRA lack teeth, or, spend too much time looking down the drains.

I for one would love to use public transport to save parking and petrol costs….plus I may be able to take an ad-hoc drink after work without worrying about getting home and then back into work the next day when I’ve left my car in town.

I only live in Sion…the heart of the island pretty much and the service is shocking. If i need to start early or finish late (i.e. 7:30 am or after 6pm) them I’m stuffed……and a taxi is a small fortune (it’s cheaper to drive myself than get a taxi).

Mark I was being sarcastic about the JCRA. As far as I am concerned they are a waste of space. They faff about a teleco monopoly and not much else. We now have the countryside littered with mobile phone masts often 3 together when non of this was needed. What has competition done that the States couldn’t have done as the owner of JT, absolutely nothing in my opinion. It has however degraded the countryside and increased any health risks 3 or 4 fold due to extra masts going up everywhere.

The real issues like travel to and from Jersey for the residents and the cost of getting goods in to Jersey appear to be completely overlooked in my opinion.

If I was in charge the JCRA would be closely looked at and disbanded if they weren’t really doing any good.

Come on States I’m still waiting for £100,000 for my consultancy ideas to help sort out travel over here. Just because I am local doesn’t mean my ideas aren’t worth as much, if not more, than the UK experts that get called in regularily to advise on local issues which they know nothing about!

I won’t be charging £250,000 or whatever it was for a flying bannana. I might for orange though!

Sorry but I just can’t take this island seriously anymore.

Adrian. I believe we are in step. The JMT was a free enterprise company living within the subsidies of the state sector and needed shaking up. The problem is we replaced a moribund private sector company with a moribund civil service.

And yes the civil service transport ‘experts’ are all at sea when it comes to understanding off island transport links. We could both do with a £100,000 fee. A snip of a fee where there are £ millions to be saved. Step one; ditch the ‘jobs worth’ of TTS.

Want a better bus service to St John? The ‘jobs worth’ of TTS hasnt got time to read internet forums, how about lobbying the parish deputy instead? He is on the scrutiny panel after all…

what gets me is the last bus to plemont is at 5.40pm – i finish work at 5.30 and most of the time I arrive and the bus is already full – mainly of people going to first tower/Beaumont and I think to myself – what is stopping you getting on the number 12, 12a, 14, 15, 7 or number 9? Why do you have to take the first bus you see – it’s my last bus and if there’s no room for me on the bus I have to shell out £15-20 on a taxi!!! This is hardly fair and It’s not like half 5 is a late finishing time – it’s pretty much universal so come on connex – give us folk in st ouen a reason to choose public transport as it is generally cheaper to drive your car and pay for parking tickets than to risk getting the bus and catching a taxi when it’s too full.
