CHAMPIONSHIP Scunthorpe United made it five pre-season wins in five games last night at Springfield Stadium, scoring five times without reply against Jersey.

Two-up inside 15 minutes following fine headed goals by Rob Jones and Ben May, last season’s League One play-off winners at Wembley went on to add second-half goals from towering defender Jones, Kevan Hurst and Jonathan Forte.

As expected, ‘the Iron’ knocked the ball around with great aplomb at times and although Jersey finished with a blank scoresheet they can be proud of their performance as they worked hard throughout and at stages some of their movement and passing matched their professional opponents.

Jersey caretaker manager Craig Culkin said: ‘It’s never pleasing to lose 5-0 but if we trained every day and played at a slightly higher standard than we currently do I’m sure we’d be able to compete at a higher level.’
