The Underground.
BROKEN drumsticks and faulty microphones did nothing to dim the spirit of the young musicians that gathered in Bar Rock for the final of the Junior Battle of the Bands last night.
In a closely fought contest, The Underground emerged as victors – despite only making the final after the winners of their heat, The Absence, were unable to play.
The final was the culmination of weeks of hard work and up to 500 teenagers, parents – and even the Assistant Education Minister Andrew Green – crammed into the venue to see The Underground grab the top prize of a weekend recording session at La Motte Street.
Bands that competed in the final were Pirate Video Company, who came sixth, The Catch, who came fifth, Patrick Star, who gained fourth place, Personal Floor in third, Salem’s Lot in second and the eventual winners The Underground – whose drummer had to borrow a set of drumsticks after his snapped.

A really really disappointing result.
Fair play to the Underground and no disrespect meant… but their performance was simply nothing compared to Salem’s Lot.
Salem’s Lots crowd was about 10 times as big as the Undergrounds, and they got them going a heck of a lot more.
Although having said that, whilst I totally agreed with them, I didn’t totally approve of the audience chanting “Salem’s Lot” and booing when the Underground did their encore.

The result was abismal, and the underground deserved every chant against them.. Salem’s lot were the winners of the night
The underground weren’t bad but Salem’s lot were about 10 times more entertaining.
The results should be made again, something wrong is here ask anyone who was there.
When the results were read and the encore was played, the club emptied leaving just friends of the underground, few of them.
an insulting result

I agree that Salem’s Lot stole the show. I spoke to the band and they distance themselves from the chanting.

who cares about the size of the bands fan base.. and how entertaining the band is doesnt show musical talent which is what the judges base the majority of their decision on..
fine salems lot put on a more entertaining show but they didnt compare on the musical side of it.

Salem’s lot were fat more musically talented than that of the underground. Yes they are entertaining but they are far better musiciancs, did you see them go!!!!

Size of fan base is perfectly relevant.
Salem’s Lot have developed a fairly good fanbase from doing many shows over the past year and by consistantly putting on a great show. The Underground have not.
Salem’s Lot were able to entertain an enourmous group of people (the people involved in their many mosh pits was far more then the whole audience for The Underground) whilst the Underground only managed a small proportion of that.
The Underground completely screwed up their last song… musical talent you say? SL were flawless and their music was considerably more complicated. They played Highway Star for gods sake! TU messed up Kings of Leon… there is no comparison.

how can you say the underground were better musicians! did you see the guitar solo’s from Salem’s Lot?!? all the underground used were powerchords…granted the singing was a bit better in the underground but Salem’s Lot’s singer nailed their style completely…Brian Johnson from AC/DC isn’t exactly the most musical singer in the world.
The bassist and drummer were bloody tight! and did you see the bass fills in highway star and those drum fills that the drummer was pulling off!
