The winner of an award that recognises the unsung heroes in Jersey has urged Islanders to put themselves forward for the 2009 title.

The Condor Ferries Community Award, one of the annual Jersey Enterprise Awards, is for people that give up their time freely to help those less fortunate than themselves.

Ruth Dolbel won the award last year for her dedication to Scouting in Jersey and has been asked to judge this year’s nominees.

‘Winning the award has given great impetus to the Scouting movement in Jersey and I would recommend any organisation or individual worthy of recognition to enter,’ she said. ‘The profile that winning this award gave Scouting in Jersey was immense – we even saw tangible evidence of adults coming forward to offer their help in running various Scout groups across the Island. I’m thrilled to have been asked to judge and can’t wait to see the shortlisted entries.’

Joining her on the judging panel are Jersey Consumer Council chairman Alan Breckon, Jersey Evening Post editor Chris Bright, Jersey Harbours commercial director Myra Shacklady and Condor Ferries managing director Simon Edsall, who will chair the panel.

Nomination forms can be downloaded from www.jerseyawards.com and should be sent to Condor Ferries Community Award, Elizabeth Harbour Terminal, St Helier, JE2 3NW.
