A LEADING UK academic was facing jail yesterday after admitting travelling to Jersey for sex with a 13-year-old girl he groomed on the internet.
Sex tourist Trevor Jackson visited the Island five times in five months after meeting the girl on a social networking site. But the 46-year-old, of Jesmond, Newcastle, was given until January to ‘put his affairs in order’ before being sentenced.
Details of the former Newcastle University lecturer’s trips, during which he twice had sex with the girl in hotels around the Island, emerged after the girl contacted Jersey police.
A joint effort by Jersey and Northumbria police then brought Jackson to justice, Northumbria police confirmed yesterday. ‘This has been an in-depth investigation in which we have worked closely with police in Jersey and we are pleased he has chosen to enter guilty pleas,’ said Detective Chief Inspector Peter Reeve of Newcastle Area Command.
At Newcastle Crown Court yesterday Jackson pleaded guilty to five counts of meeting a child following sexual grooming and five of engaging in sexual activity with a child between September 2005 and February 2006. He will be sentenced on 22 January.
