A LAST-gasp goal sent Rozel Rovers up the Dandara Jersey Football Combination Premiership table with a 2-1 victory over Jersey Scottish last night.

In the final move of the match Rozel broke free down the left-hand side and although the initial cross was saved, the ball came back out to Ross Philpott who stabbed it in with seconds remaining to give his side maximum points from the encounter.

After a goalless first half Rozel took the lead around 55 minutes into the match when Scott Healey curled a free kick into the goal from the edge of the box.

Scottish responded with a fluke equaliser when Lee Burns’ cross alluded keeper James Keating and went in off the far post. Paul Aitken did have a one-on-one chance with the ‘keeper later in the match but lost touch with the ball before getting his shot away.

Jersey Scottish manager Pat Brennan could find little praise for his side, who have now only taken seven points from eight matches.

He said: ‘It was a bit of a disaster for us, a really bad result against a team we thought we would get three points from, so we’re very disappointed. I said after the St Peter match that it was the worst performance I’d seen from the side in over 20 years, but this was worse; it was a dire game and we didn’t play a lot of football.’
